Areas of Interest
Parallelizing compilers, introductory and advanced computer science
education
Biographical Sketch
uth Anderson received her Ph.D. in computer science
from the University of Washington
in 2005. She joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia in September
2000. She is the Faculty Sponsor of the UVa ACM-W Student Chapter,
and served as a committee member at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in
Computing 2004.
Research
nderson's research interests focus on addressing the
limitations of parallelizing compilers. She is also interested in the
pedagogy. of introductory as well as advanced computer science courses.
She was a research assistant on measurement and replay of interactive
applications under John
Zahorjan, with whom she researched compiler
optimizations for parallel systems. Her research on educational
technology includes topics such as understanding diagrammatic ink in
lectures, active learning using tablet PCs, promoting classroom
interactions using computer-mediated feedback, and the closed laboratory
model in computer science education.
