Biographical Sketch

Steve Chapin received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University. He was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Kent State University from 1993 until joining the Computer Science department at the University of Virginia in 1996. He is the author or co-author of several papers.

Research

Steve Chapin's research has centered on the investigation of distributed and parallel computing systems. Specifically, he is examining microkernel operating systems and programming environments for heterogeneous multicomputers. This research includes investigation into resource management, threading paradigms, task scheduling, and state sharing. The common theme for this research is the accommodation of autonomy and heterogeneity in the component systems.
