ecause of the huge and increasing demand for its courses, the Department of Computer Science may be forced to limit the number of Computer Science majors. The limitation would be introduced to ensure that those students in the program receive a first-class education. In fact, the Department of Computer Science has as one if its goals to be the best undergraduate department in the country.
Effective immediately, students who are not already majors, need to apply for a Computer Science major. ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT CS MAJORS AND WISH TO BE A COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJOR MUST APPLY. For first year students, the application should be submitted at the end of the Spring semester. For transfer and returning students, applications can also be submitted at end of the Fall semester. All applicants must have completed CS 101. Please note that current second, third, and fourth year Computer Science majors need not formally apply.
Students who want to apply, should bring an up to date copy of their transcript to the Department of Computer Science office in Olsson 204. They should also bring a completed copy of this Major Application Form
The criteria for evaluating an applicant will be based both on their Computer Science grades and their overall GPA. Providing additional information is allowed, but not necessary.
