Attend Social Events

When you first come to UVa, there will be several opportunities to attend social activities; go to these if at all possible. They are excellent chances to get to know the Faculty and other students. Then, throughout the year, there are tea times, happy hours, basketball games, racquet ball challenges, soccer and other miscellaneous events that are good things to attend. It is always advisable for everyone to socialize away from work and class.

If your native language is not English, make sure to socialize with native English speakers to practice your English as much as possible. If you are an American, take advantage of the diversity of students in our department to learn about other cultures and languages.
