Poster Printer Hardware Overview he new HP DesignJet 2500CP printer is capable of producing high-quality, color posters in sizes up to 3' X 100'. The department currently stocks two types of coated paper (heavy and light) as well as glossy photo paper. For more hardware information please see the CS Administration Page

Software

Introduction

Windows and Unix applications that can use this printer include: PowerPoint, PhotoShop, FrameMaker, and XFig, however, Visio has been the most recommended application for poster printing.

The printer is for research use only, so once you send a job to the queue you must send a message to root@cs.virginia.edu asking them to release your job from the queue before it will be processed.

Using the Software

To create a new poster using Visio:

• Open Visio, select new drawing, no template
• Choose file | page setup, then click printer
• From the printer list select CS-POSTER
• Now select the paper size (about paper sizes)
• After creating the poster, choose file | print
• Send mail to root@cs.virginia.edu asking them to release the job from the queue

To print multiple PowerPoint slides on a single poster (using Visio):

• Create a new document in Visio and follow the setup procedure above
• Select the PowerPoint slides you wish to place on the poster (go to the slide, select edit | select all, then edit | copy)
• In Visio choose edit | paste
• Now you can move the slide anywhere on the page
• Finally, in Visio, choose file | print - and don't forget to send mail to root@cs.virginia.edu
