The New and Improved Computer Science Lounge

In order to further enhance the friendly environment that prevails among the students and faculty of our Department, Professor Gabe Robins with help from the the Computer Science Graduate Student Group (CSGSG) and the UVa Chapter of the ACM have created the Computer Science Lounge in Olsson 224 and 225.

The Lounge now features a continuous service of gourmet coffees and flavored teas, available to all visitors. The kitchen area adjacent to the lounge houses a new commercial-sized (33 cubic feet) refrigerator that is always well-stocked with several dozen varieties of soft drinks and other items, including sodas, juices, ice tea, fruits, yogurts, and much more. A large assortment of other snacks are also available in the Lounge, including cookies, chocolates, biscotti, dried fruits, mixed nuts, bubble gum, popcorn, and a variety of candies.

The lounge also contains dozens of games, from Chess to Go to Risk, lots of popular puzzles, softcover novels, as well as a full lineup of current news magazines (e.g., Time, Newsweek, Scientific American, Science News, Nature, EE Times, PC World, Wired Magazine, etc.) Posted in the lounge is also a rapidly-growing collection of recently-published research papers co-authored by our graduate students as well as our undergraduates.

If there is something that you would like to see added to the lounge menu, just leave a note on the "dry erase" board in the kitchen. To purchase any food item, please deposit your reimbursement in the payment box on the wall in the kitchen, and record your remaining balance on the clipboard above the box. Bottled drinks are $0.75 and canned drinks are $0.50; for other lounge foods, please pay the amount you think it is worth (and please be generous!)

The Computer Science Lounge is open 24 hours a day. So, please feel free to stop by, have a snack, and perhaps challenge someone to a friendly board game.
