Friday Poem

Giraffes playing chess.

Untitled Poem

“‍Please draw a giraffe,‍” the student said, “‍A sad one playing chess. The chess-game’s the cause (its queen is dead) That brought its joy to ‘‍less‍’.‍” “‍A happy giraffe,‍” I did reply, “‍Is something I can sketch; But sad ones? From chess? I could, but why?‍” Said she “‍It’s not a stretch. Giraffes have no hands, which makes them mad And drops their joy from ‘‍more‍’.‍” I granted the point, but questions had: “‍Then what’s the queen-bit for?‍”
