From horton at cs.virginia.edu Tue May 1 10:03:55 2007 From: horton at cs.virginia.edu (Tom Horton) Date: Tue May 1 10:06:56 2007 Subject: [Ugrads07] demo of music control and composition SW Message-ID: <463772FB.3040508@cs.virginia.edu> [Message forwarded for Curtis Myzie, cdm5z@virginia.edu. Any follow-up to him, please.] Professor Horton, I was wondering if you could send out a notification to the CS Ugrads and professors about our interactive media demo tomorrow. It's open to anyone, there will be free food and drinks. We created software to control audio playback and audio effects in real time using the Nintendo wiimote and motion tracking using webcams. Thanks, Curtis Here's our blurb about the event: _____________________ We're inviting anyone that's interested to check out our unique music control and composition software on Wednesday May 2nd, at noon. We were inspired to create an audio player controlled by human motion, like a conductor with an orchestra. We achieved this by hacking a Nintendo wiimote and doing motion capture with a webcam, allowing you to control music (e.g. audio effects, volume, and tempo) by moving in front of the webcam or by waving the wiimote around. We'll give a demonstration of our software, talk about its design and implementation, answer questions, and let anybody attending play around and control music. Pizza and drinks will be provided towards the end of our talk. The presentation should be around 20 minutes long, and after that people can eat, control some music, and ask questions. Here is a brief clip of our software, so you can get a better idea of what we're trying to accomplish. http://youtube.com/watch?v=t-B_L7FtyWY WHERE: Thornton E316 WHEN: Tomorrow, Wednesday May 2, 12:00 Noon WHO: Curtis Myzie (CS), Aaron Albin (ECE), Tommy Woo (CS) From jpc at virginia.edu Thu May 3 11:06:21 2007 From: jpc at virginia.edu (Jim Cohoon) Date: Thu May 3 11:06:39 2007 Subject: [Ugrads07] Internship available Message-ID: <48426A2D884D44B0BEF572097C68EC98@Gleichheit> The following is a message I have been asked to distribute. Dear Professor Cohoon, I was once one of your advisees in the CS department before I switched to a financial math major. I am now about to graduate and work for a company called Investure, where I will be a financial analyst. I had been working as an intern for a while, and during that time I used a lot of my computer science skills to help automate some of the processes that are used in the company. I know it is a little late in the year, but Investure is looking for another intern who is interested in finance and has a strong background in computer science. The position would be full time over the summer, potentially carrying into the next school year. Could you please circulate this email to the CS mailing list? Anyone interested can send me an email with their resume attached and I'll be in touch with them. I hope the end of the semester goes well for you!
