I learned a lot in this course.

I am glad I took this course because it gave me a new perspective on how a program works, especially at the machine level.

There is a lot of work required for this class, probably more than any other 3 credit course the University offers, BUT the assignments really helped me learn the material so its not completely a waste of time. Lab 6 (Hashes) and Lab 11 (Huffman coding) were my least favorite labs, but that is because they were the most challenging for me. The other labs are good/bearable.

Love the teacher, hate the coursework!

Too much work.

I would have liked to get to know Unix more throughout the course. I don't feel like I've gained any level of comfort with Linux, the command line, etc.

The labs were often very difficult and took up the majority of my free time. This left very little time for me to focus on other classes.

This course was...my life, it literally took practically all my time, but it was also the most enjoyable class that I was taking.

Okay. This will just go right along with all those other evaluations saying, "It was hard! But I learned a lot..." However, I want to insist on the fact that Professor Bloomfield should take this into consideration. Every week, he would ask how the labs are going, and then 'apologize' about ruining our lives. I feel like he doesn't actually get affected by this. It's nice to know he'll change things for later semesters, but doing something for the current class would be even nicer to know. It almost seems like he doesn't care that things are so frustratingly difficult. Labs could be split up a bit more wisely. For instance, the Huffman lab required several parts in the beginning, and only small parts in the In- and Post-labs. Such labs could be spaced out better. Of course, he knows his stuff, and I learned a lot, but I like to sleep at some point.

I don't think he made himself that available outside of class, but it was probably because of the split classes. However, I think split classes is much better for the students, maybe not for him though as I'm sure his stamina wears down. I don't know how he keeps up his showmanship, he would probably be a good actor. Then again that's what all professors are. Except maybe that one that is a total jerk ((REDACTED)).
