In real mode all of the CPU's protection features are disabled, paging is not supported, and program addresses correspond to physical memory addresses. The address space is limited to 1 MB of physical memory and uses memory segmentation scheme. Real mode is compatible with the 8086, the 8088, the 80186, and the real mode of the 80286.
