Purpose

• Provide functions in support of getting web-based data into the needed information structures. The functions make direct or indirect use of standard module urllib.request.

• The module must be downloaded and imported for programmer use.

• The most up to date version of module url.py is always available here

Functions for getting text, lists, and csv sheets from web files

• Function url.get_text( link )

• Returns the contents of the web resource indicated by parameter link as a string.

• Function url.get_dataset( link )

• Returns the contents of the csv web resource indicated by parameter link as a dataset sheet whose cell values are either string, int, float, or bool as appropriate.

• Function url.get_strings( link )

• Returns the contents of the web resource indicated by parameter link as a list of strings.

• Function url.get_lines( link )

• Returns the contents of the web resource indicated by parameter link as a list of lines, where each line is a string.

• Function url.get_dataset_as_rows_of_strings( link )

• Returns the contents of the csv web resource indicated by parameter link as a dataset sheet whose cell values are all strings.
