Clicker Used in CS201 (AKA SRS device)

Check your clicker responses

In CS201, the particular clicker (also known as a Student Response Device) we'll be using is the ResponseCard RF made by Turning Technologies. It looks like this:
  • Note there's a difference between the RF and the IR and other models. We definitely need the RF.
  • If you already have a clicker like this from CS101 or CHEM 151 last year or another course, then it will work fine. No need to buy a new clicker.
  • If you have a friend or you can find one used, then that's good too.
  • If you have a friend in another class (not CS201), then you can share a clicker.
  • But you cannot share a clicker with someone else in another CS201 section during the same term
  • Important: there is an older version of this device that are labeled "Responsive Innovations" -- we have been told by the company that this older version is not really reliable, and thus we recommend you not buy one of these used. If you have one, it will work but be nice to it and keep your fingers crossed.

Registering Your Clicker:

Each clicker device has a unique six-character hexadecimal code (only containing 0-9 or A-F) on the back. This is transmitted to our computer with your answer when you click. When you register this code into the ITC toolkit, we know to give you credit for answers sent with your clicker's code.
To get credit for your answers, you must do the following:
  • Find the six-character code on the back of your clicker. It looks something like 0D6C01 or 0290B0. It is not something like RCRF-01 or R4WRCRF01! Those are the clicker model numbers, and are the same for many clickers. (This code is very small for the clickers with the dark-grey border.)
  • Follow this link to the Toolkit page for your section:
    https://toolkit.itc.virginia.edu/2008_Spring_CS201-1/clickers
  • Enter your code and hit Submit.
  • Each student in all sections of CS201 must have a unique clicker ID entered here. (So no sharing of clickers with someone else in this class. Other classes, no problem!)
  • If you need to change this because you mis-entered the number or you get a new or different clicker later in the term, repeat the steps above.
