    Slide 3 of 21

When confronted with the challenge of creating virtual environments like the ones we saw on the previous slide, we chose to focus on agents with the above characteristics.
  • We require autonomous control to simulate many agents simultaneously without much user interaction.
  • These agents must be able to react to the unpredictable actions of the user. This requirement prevents the use of straightforward motion generation techniques that just playback pre-scripted motion.
  • Finally, we expect the agents to exist in a complex environment. We intend for the environment to be not only physically complex with terrain and barriers, but also behaviorally complex in the many interactions that can arise between the agents.
