David Evans - Contact Information

Contacting Me

The best way to reach me is by email to evans@virginia.edu or through our research group slack.

I'm pretty good about responding to emails that deserve a response (meaning that someone went to some effort to email me personally), so if I don't respond please make sure your message couldn't be interpreted as a mass-mailing and try sending it again. I am more likely to receive and respond to your message if you include a meaningful subject line and send a plain text email. If you have a good reason to need to reach me some other way, here's how to contact me by phone.

If you are a prospective research student, please read my Advice for Prospective Research Students before contacting me first. This applies to anyone outside of UVA interested in joining my research group, either as a graduate student at UVA or for an internship or temporary visit.

If you are already a student at UVA, it will impress me if you read and follow it, but it is okay to contact me directly to set up a meeting without reading that first. If you want to set up a meeting, the best way to do this is to offer to come during my office hours if you can and let me know other times when you are available to meet.

Office Hours

I do not have scheduled office hours for the remainder of the Spring 2017 semester.
To schedule a time to meet with me, use: https://davidevans.youcanbook.me.

Students in my class have priority during scheduled office hours, but I am always happy to meet with any students who want to discuss computer science, your own projects, my research projects, computer security, starting a business, how to get the most out of college, or soccer. If you're not in my class, feel free to drop by during office hours, find me in my office when the door is open, or use https://davidevans.youcanbook.me to schedule another time to meet.

My office is Rice Hall, room 507.

Directions from The Lawn: Walk past the Ampitheatre and follow McCormick Road across the bridge over Emmet Street (Route 29). After crossing the bridge, you'll see the main engineering school (Thornton Hall) entrance on your left. Just past this, turn left on the unnamed street. The last building on your left is Rice Hall. My office is Room 507.

Directions from points North: Take Route 29 South through Charlottesville. After passing University Ave. and then under a bridge, route 29 curves to the left; instead of following the curve, stay stright on the small road (Stadium Road). Turn left at Jefferson Park Avenue (the stree on the left is called Maury Ave, but its name changes to Alderman Road). You will pass the huge UVa football stadium. Turn right on the street after it (Whitehead Road). Rice Hall is the last building at the end of this street on the left.
