Programming Assignments

There will be three programming assignments, accounting for 40% of your final grade.

Written Exercises

There will also be three written exercises, accounting for 25% of your final grade.

Final project

In addition, there will be a final project for the course, to be completed individually or in pairs. This will be worth 35% of the final grade. Written proposals will be due Tuesday, April 15 and an in-class presentation of your project results (scheduled during the final exam for this course) will occur on Tuesday, May 6.

Late Policy

All of the programming assignments and exercises are due at 11:59 PM on the due date. You have 4 free late days that you can use any time during the semester. After that, each late day reduces your grade by 1/2 (e.g., five late days results in 0.5^5*[original score]).

No late presentations or reports will be permitted for the final project.

Collaboration Policy

You may discuss assignments with others, but everything handed in must be your own work. All code must be your own - you may not use code from your classmates, the internet, or any other source without prior approval from the instructor. You must also clearly document any external sources you used in your solution in your final write-up.

Submitting Your Work

Please submit your solutions to the programming assignments electronically, by creating a .zip or .tar.gz file containing your code, results, and a writeup (in plain text or HTML) and making this available via the web. Please send the URL to rpw7e@cs.virginia.edu. DO NOT SEND YOUR SOLUTION AS AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT!! Please include "COS451" in the subject line of the email. The answers to written exercises should also be submitted electronically via email. Plain text is preferred.
