The Central Government of Earth

The Earth still rules directly over dozens of inhabited worlds referred to as the Central Provinces of Earth.  The colonists in the outlying planets and uncharted territories have a certain degree of autonomy.

The government is composed of an executive branch (President and Vice President) a Senate, a House of Colonial Representatives, and a Council of the Private Sector which is headed by a Corporate Chancellor.

The Executive

The President and Vice President are elected by a populist vote of all citizens of the Provinces of Earth.

The Senate

Members of the Senate are elected to represent individual planetary populations in the central government.

The House of Colonial Representatives

Members of The House of Colonial Representatives are elected by the colonists.  Colonial territories are divided according to population numbers and each territory is given a set number of representatives based on that population.  This branch of the government tends to act more as an advisory group rather than a law making body.

Council of the Private Sector

Members of the Council of the Private Sector are selected by their respective corporations.  A Corporation must have a minimum citizen population and minimum Gross Corporate Product to be represented in the Council.  The Council is led by a Chancellor.  As the largest single corporation, Mechadyne Inc has appointed the Chancellor continuously for over 100 years. 

Key Personalities

Many of the government leaders are elected but bungling idiots.  One exception is Senator Sinistar.  Senator Sinistar is plotting with the executives of Mechadyne Inc. to take over all of human civilization.  Senator Sinistar believes the only way to reverse the decaying power of the Central Government of Earth is to combine what little political power it has with the source of its military might, Mechadyne Inc.
