Insecticae Corporation

Insecticorp has been genetically engineering insects for large scale planetary farming and small scale construction assistance for centuries.  Insecticorp recently expanded into terraforming entire planets.  This expansion put Insecticorp in direct competition with Soy Terraformers.  The space Insecticorp launched its pilot terraforming project is a trio of planetary systems between several SOPEC Corporations.

SOPEC wants to eliminate the Insecticorp terraforming experiment both to destroy a competitor and to free planetary systems that SOPEC can use as a capital to run SOPEC and conquer the rest of human civilization.  To this end, a shadowy SOPEC corporate executive convinced pirates and other criminals to attack the Insecticorp terraforming colonies in return for huge payments.  If Insecticorp's terraforming colonies were completely destroyed by pirates, Insecticorp would not have the resources to rebuild for 60 or more years.  In that time, SOPEC would be able to take over that territory and build towards its dominance of human civilization.
