`gwTTS` User's Guide

The designers of gwTTS believe that once installed, there is very little difficulty in using the interface. Most user problems incurred will involve the individual MBONE applications gwTTS integrates. If you are having problems running the individual applications on your system, it is most likely an installation issue. Check out the Installation Guide .

gwTTS Teacher Interface

Launching the Teacher

The teacher is launched directly from a UNIX prompt. The syntax is as follows: gwtts -h [host] -t[session name]
Until the server is released, we highly recommend that you omit any arguments. If you do not specify values for host and session name, the teacher will default to parker.cs.virginia.edu (as a server) and will use your UNIX username to identify your session.
Running a Session

After you start your session, you should see an X-Window that looks something like this one. (Except that now you get our new cool video icon)
Each of the icons launches the corresponding application. You should single click the icon to launch the application. All the appropriate settings will be set for you by the gwTTS application. The list box contains the names of the participants as well as letters to indicate the status of the participant. When you launch an application, a letter will appear adjacent to each participant to indicate that the participant has also launched the application successfully. The Letters are:
- V (video)
- A (audio)
- M (mosaic)
- W (Whiteboard)
- ? (indicates that the participant has a question)
