Mt. Whitney and Surrounding Eastern Sierras

This shot was taken from the Mt. Whitney Portal Road somewhere in the Alabama Foothills early on the morning of February 27, 1996. Mt. Whitney is the jagged peak just a touch to the right of dead center and is the tallest point in the lower 48 states at well over 14,000 feet (even though it looks shorter than some of the other peaks). In the foreground you can see the scrub brush landscape of the high desert that stretches to the east of the Sierra Nevada range.
