TOPLAS EiC Search

The term of the current Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems (TOPLAS) Editors-in-Chief, Kathryn McKinley and Keshav Pingali, ends in May 2010. We wish to thank Kathryn and Keshav for their dedicated service the past three years.

ACM is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of TOPLAS). TOPLAS is the premier journal for reporting recent research advances in the areas of programming languages, and systems to assist the task of programming. The scope of TOPLAS includes, but is not limited to, the following subjects:

  • language design for sequential and parallel programming,
  • programming language implementation,
  • programming language semantics,
  • compilers and interpreters,
  • runtime systems for program execution,
  • storage allocation and garbage collection,
  • languages and methods for writing program specifications,
  • languages and methods for secure and reliable programs, and
  • testing and verification of programs.

Nominees and applicants must have strong, relevant experience in a role such as a journal associate editor or program chair for a high-quality, peer-reviewed conference. In order to attract high-quality papers to the journal, they must also have an outstanding reputation as an international leader in their area of expertise. Key qualities of the EiC are a good understanding of the research community's needs at academic, industrial, and government laboratories, awareness of research areas and emerging developments in programming languages and programming systems, as well as the skills to manage the editorial cycle in a timely fashion.

The term of appointment is three years commencing in the summer of 2010. The EiC appointment may be renewed once, after review. This position is entirely voluntary. The Publications Board has chartered the following search committee to make a recommendation to the Publications Board for the next EiC of TOPLAS.
