CS Department Library Etiquette
Be Considerate
Please realize that this library is organized and maintained by student volunteers. Your help in keeping the it straightened up and clean is the only way it will stay operational. We would really appreciate your help. If you would like to volunteer to assist in this endeavor or have suggestions, please email us at library@cs.virginia.edu. Thanks!
Sign Out Materials
Materials should be signed out on the sheets at the end of the bookshelves by the bulletin board. Please include your email address so that if someone else needs to use the material before you return it they can contact you.
Reshelve Materials Yourself
Materials are organized with the oldest volume to the top and left. Each bookcase is considered a unit, rather than each shelf from a bookcase being considered a unit. In other words, issues of a journal that span more than one shelf in a bookcase will first continue on the next lower shelf and the bottom shelf will continue on the bookcase to the right on the top shelf. Please make sure that you put journals back in the box with the appropriate label. Specific journals can be located by looking at the map on the bookcase by the sign out sheets.
Don't Dump Donations
Donations to the library are appreciated, but should be journals, conference proceedings or books that are of general use. Copies of individual papers are not kept. If you have a small number of donations, feel free to put them in the wooden library mailbox by the graduate student mailboxes. For donations of a larger size, please email library@cs.virginia.edu to work out a specific plan for where to put the donation.
Ask For What You Want
If we are not subscribed or do not have a material that you feel is important to your research, please let us know. Email to library@cs.virginia.edu and let us know exactly what you want. If enough interest is shown we may be able to acquire it. If no interest is shown, we won't!
