I did my undergraduate work at SUNY Geneseo in upstate NY, where I double majored in Math and Computer Science
Here at UVA I am working under Jim Cohoon in the vlsicad group.
I spent my first summer here working on the Design Automation Library, a series of HTML files that index many of the important proceedings and journals in the field of Design Automation.
My Master's Project was a detailed router for Field Programmable Gate Arrays, called Upstart, which tries to make as few local changes to the existing global route as possible (as opposed to a standard rip-up and re-route strategy). You can download the slides from my master's talk.
My current Ph.D. work involves a detailed router named Quark. Quark differs from other routers in that it tries to route all nets simultaneously by holding an auction for the routing resources, in which all the nets are bidders. It is hoped that this "global look" at routing will do better than conventional detailed routers that route nets one at a time. I passed my thesis proposal in February, 2000, , and my proposal document and slides from my talk are available.
I am one third of the design team of Java Othello , a java server that allows multiple games to be played, as well as programs that play there, including a program that runs in parallel using the Legion System
I've written 2 versions of the Solution Manual to Dr. Cohoon and Dr. Davidson's C++: Program and Design textbook

I've also spent a semester actually teaching a section of CS 110 - Introduction to Information Technology. I found this quite rewarding, and is part of the reason why I'm looking for a teaching career.
I've been involved in the grad student community, serving as a mentor for incoming grad students for several years, and also serving for over a year on the Computer Science Grad Student Group Steering Committee
