Activity: Get to know you

(no submission)

Purpose:
Important note. Please read

You will be taking a selfie (or photo) of your team and post it on the course's Piazza along with your activity sheet. Later, I would like to post them on the class website. I am asking for your consent to post your team's selfie and activity sheet on the course website. If you do not agree to give your consent, please let me know via email. I will exclude your team's selfie and/or activity sheet.

(Activity based in part on "Getting to Know You" activity, by The Office of Human Resources, West Virginia University Extension Service)

You will have 10 minutes to complete this activity. To facilitate your conversation, you may want to delegate a timekeeper to ensure you get to all of the tasks.

Tasks:

  1. Team with your neighbors (you may team with as many neighbors as your want, but probably not more than 10)
  2. Get to know your team
    1. Use the two-breath rule, introduce yourself, share your name, major(s), the year you are in.
    2. Use the provided paper. Draw a large flower with a center and an equal number of petals to the number of participants in your team. You may draw any kind of flower — be creative and have fun! in your drawing.
      • If you prefer, you may use any form of shared documents (such as Google Doc) to complete this activity
    3. Discuss within your team, find your similarities — You may find something unique about your team, something in common, or something funny or awesome about your team. Then, fill in the center of the flower with something you all have in common
    4. Each team member then fills in his/her petal with one (or two) interesting or unique thing(s) about him/her — things that are unlike any other member in your team.
    5. Do not use physical attributes such as hair color, weight, etc. Think about something meaningful to your team. Be creative and have fun!.
    6. Be prepared to share your flower with the class. You should discuss similarities and differences
  3. Login to Piazza and share
    1. Take a selfie (or picture) of your team
    2. Take a picture of your flower
    3. One of the team members will post the pictures (a selfie and a flower) as a followup discussion in the "Get to Know You" note.
Note: All team member should login to Piazza. Please verify that you have access to our course's Piazza. If you cannot access or login, you may try to enroll yourself into the course's Piazza, or notify me or the TA(s) to enroll you in.
