1. How do I change the color of text?

For people using browsers using the Netscape extensions, you can change the color of the background, text, links, and visited links. Here are examples of each:

<bgcolor="#000000">
<text="#00FF88">
<vlink="#FFFFFF">
<link="#FFFF00">

The value is actually 3 two-digit values representing the red, green, and blue components of the color. (F is the maximum value of a digit. A comes after 9). #000000 Is black, #FF0000 is fully saturated red, and #00FF00 is fully saturated green.

2. How do I use a background Image?

3. How do I do forms, or some other kind of web program?

On UVa CS machines, do: man cgiwrap You might need to add /usr/cs/contrib/man to your MANPATH first.

4. How do I add tables to a web page?

Netscape has an entire page devoted to this question.

5. How do I make my images "interlaced"?

Ie, how do I make it so an images loads at a low resolution, and more detail gets added over time?

Netscape also has a page that answers this question.

6. How do I make a clickable image map?

Cern has an answer to this one.

We also have a utility to assist in this process, called mapedit, which is in /usr/cs/contrib/bin. There is a manual on mapedit on-line.

7. What's the best way to edit html from Emacs?

I've found that html-helper-mode is by far the most useful emacs mode for editing html. Add the following lines to your .emacs:
