Weimer's Collection of English Prose

Back when I was in the "romance novel business" I told people that I was collecting examples of tortured prose from web posts. This list, a compilation of the best entries sent to me, is the result. The purpose of this list is twofold. First, it provides a number of oppurtunities for you to practice grammar, usage, mechanics, spelling and punctuation. Second, it provides a number of opportunities for schadenfreude.

You can use this list by selecting a random entry, figuring out what is wrong with it, and then correcting it. Many entries require multiple corrections. You should break ties in favor of the shortest edit distance. Some of the entries beg for a complete rewrite. You should resist that urge.

All of the entries are presented verbatim; you should also correct errors in punctuation or spacing. Copyrights remain with the original writers.
