| Overview |
A sensor network monitoring device usages can over time derive usage patterns. This project aims to combine household-wide device load monitoring with other forms of environmental detection and awareness, such as occupancy sensors. One goal of such a network is to determine superfluous and unnecessary power usage, primarily from automated devices. A smart HVAC or water heater controller could provide its services only when necessary. Other goals include providing detailed power consumption statistics to bill payers and establishing an incentive-based peak-load mitigation system based on dynamic pricing of power. |
