For Spring 2024 (until 1 May 2024), I have open office hours on
Mondays, 1:30-2:30pm (in my office, Rice 507). There's no need to make
an appointment — feel free to stop by then to talk about
anything you would like to talk about.
Students in my class have
priority during my scheduled office hours (and I announce any
disruptions in my usual office hours schedule there), but I am always
happy to meet with any students who want to discuss computer science, your own projects, my research projects, social
justice, lego universality, starting
a business, how to get
the most out of college,
how to get the most out of post-college, where humans will still have dignity in a few decades,
soccer, or poker.
If you're not in my class, feel free to drop by during office hours,
find me in my office anytime when the door is open, or schedule time to meet using:
By default, meetings are in person at my office. If none of the times available there work for you or you prefer to set up a virtual meeting, contact me a list of possible times you can meet (don't use the auto-scheduling form for virtual meetings).
The best way to reach me is by email to evans@virginia.edu.
I'm usually pretty good about responding to emails that deserve a response (meaning that someone went to some effort to email me personally), so if I don't respond please make sure your message couldn't be interpreted as a mass-mailing and try sending it again. I am more likely to receive and respond to your message if you include a meaningful subject line and send a plain text email. If you have a good reason to need to reach me some other way, here's how to contact me by phone.
If you are a prospective research student not already at UVA, please read my Advice for Prospective Research Students before contacting me first. This applies to anyone outside of UVA interested in joining my research group, either as a graduate student at UVA or for an internship or temporary visit.
If you are already a student at UVA, it will impress me if you read and follow it, but it is okay to contact me directly to set up a meeting without reading that first. If you want to set up a meeting, the best way to do this is to offer to come during my office hours if you can and let me know other times when you are available to meet.
DuckDuckGo, Microsoft, and even Google can tell you how to find it.
