If you are a faculty member looking to purchase hardware to support your research, follow the steps laid out here for the smoothest and fastest delivery:

1. Define hardware specifications
2. Finalize hardware specifications
   1. Determine if any can be altered. For example, lowering total CPU Memory, different CPUs, etc.
3. Complete the server specifcation form
4. Email the form to CS Purchasing: cspurchasing@virginia.edu
5. CS IT will review the request to ensure it is compatible with the computing environment
6. CS Purchasing contacts a UVA-approved vendor, negotiates pricing, and returns to you a quote for your review
7. Please review the quote and reply with your approval or rejection decision. If approved, CS Purchasing completes the purchase through UVA's procurement system
8. The CS Department will inform you of delivery
9. Receive the equipment
   1. The CS IT team is responsible for deploying hardware
   2. The CS IT team will receive hardware then contact the respective purchaser for details about the deployment or where to pick up equipment from

• I purchased a laptop, does it need to have anything installed?
  • Yes. The CS IT team must install security software onto department endpoint devices such as laptops and desktops.

• What is the maximum network speed supported in Rice Hall for a server?
  • Currently 1Gb can be supported. Anything above is for point-to-point communication between servers.
