Comment1.1 The course was much more well designed compared to the alternative, CS201. There were times when the homework assignments were not related to the class lectures but it wasnt a big deal.
Comment1.2 The class is difficult and time consuming, but you definently get out of it what you put in, and Dave is one of the best teachers at this University. Remember the name Dave Evans. He is always so prepared for class and any question you ask. He was in the lab with us late the other night, helping us, completely beyond what any other professor has ever done. And sometimes he would let us have class outside.
Comment1.3 i wish wed been taught some java, or there was an easier way to understand the language besides just looking online, it turned into guess and check most of the semester
Comment1.4 This was a great class. Its small size and excellent professor were its two strong points. The professor was very knowlegable and accessible for questions both inside and outside the classroom, and the small size of the class was very encouraging for student-teacher interaction. The class was far better than any other CS class I have taken because it teaches how to program in a safe and smart way, and the grading policy as well as the assignments were designed so that learning the material was more important than getting a working program - if your program didnt work completely correctly you would still get most of the points if you can show that you know what is going on. I would recommend that the class be offered again, and at the same course size.
Comment1.5 This is a great class if you like to program with a useful programing language
Comment1.6 Professor Evans is a truly unique professor. I wish there were more instructors at this school that strived to give their students great personal attention and presented the class material in such an interesting way. Great course!
Comment1.7 This was by far the best course that I have taken so far in the eschool. I have never worked so hard and learned so much. Dave is an incredible professor; he is very accessible and fair. The format of this course worked very well. Learning how to program in java was difficult at first, but overall was not a problem. I also liked the fact that we discussed and learned about other programming languages as well. Overall, I would say that this course was extraordinarily effective in teaching principles of good design. I would recommend this course to all of my friends. It was definitely one of the most challenging courses that I have ever taken.

Comment1.1 A classic MIT style class -- fancy slides, abnormal problem sets, childish humors. You will gain certain amount of knowledge in computer science language but not as specific in details as cs201. You will also lose more sleep and get a lower GPA than taking cs201. But anyway, if you can hang on not to drop it in the first 2 weeks, you will have fun later. And if you are a charming female this course will be specially very friendly to you.
Comment1.2 David Evans is one of the best professors I have ever had.
Comment1.3 I really enjoyed the class despite the fact that it required so much time. I feel like even though I probably didnt learn all of the course material fully, I still got a lot out of the class and learned a lot. The instructor was able to bring excitement and interest to a topic that can be extremely boring.
Comment1.4 This class was excellent. I learned both programming and design techniques, and the true meaning of Computer Science.
Comment1.5 This is by far the best course and instructor I believe I could have in a Computer Science course. I think CS201J and CS200 should be offered every semester, so that people could benefit from not having to take CS101, which is among the worst classes Ive ever had.
Comment1.6 David Evans is one of only 3 professors at UVA I know that actually cares about students.
