Lu Feng

Associate Professor
University of Virginia

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Virginia. I am also a member of the Link Lab, a center of research excellence in Cyber-Physical Systems. Previously, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. I hold a D.Phil. in Computer Science from the University of Oxford.

My research focuses on assuring the safety and trustworthiness of embodied AI systems that perceive, reason, and act in the physical world, often in collaboration with humans. I study how learning-enabled and autonomous systems can be designed, verified, and monitored to operate reliably under uncertainty and interaction, drawing on formal methods, control, and machine learning. My work spans both design-time assurance and runtime mechanisms, with applications to autonomous driving, healthcare AI, and robotics.
