Friday Poem

“‍Glistening Heaps of Jelly‍”, flash poetry developed from a title in under 30 minutes.

The results are unexpected. I never would have guessed that a poem titled “‍glistening heaps of jelly‍” would turn out to be some sort of anthem.

Glistening Heaps of Jelly

All through the city’s golden street the jellies sweetly stand
They jiggle with the passing breeze and loose an odor grand
And where two jellies gently meet their mingled juices strive
With colors brilliant, like fall leaves, to make you feel alive!

Glistening Heaps of Jelly that line our city fair,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly that freshen up our air,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly, most glorious and smart,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly, I pledge to you my heart!

When, through the dismal battlefield in which we all felt doomed,
We first laid eyes on jelly heaps, our dying hope resumed.
An when the victory bells had peeled and crime again returned
The jellies vanquished too the creeps: salvation given unearned!

Glistening Heaps of Jelly that line our city fair,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly that freshen up our air,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly, most glorious and smart,
Glistening Heaps of Jelly, I pledge to you my heart!
