Education

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Virginia, U.S., Aug. 2022 ~ Present.

  • M.S. in Computer Science, Jilin University, China, Sep. 2019 ~ June 2022.

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Jilin University, China, Sep. 2015 ~ July 2019

Work Experience

  • Research Intern @ Microsoft Research, May 2026 ~ Present

    • Mentors: Wenlin Yao, Baolin Peng, Jianfeng Gao

    • I worked on self-improving coding agents, proposing an iterative improvement framework that co-evolves the model and harness. Paper in preparation.

  • Research Scientist Intern @ Meta, May 2025 ~ Dec. 2025

    • Mentors: Xin Luna Dong, Scott Wen-tau Yih

    • I worked on truthful LLMs, introducing a new truthfulness-driven RL paradigm for training LLMs, significantly reducing hallucinations by enabling LLMs to admit uncertainty when unsure. Publication: TruthRL (ICML 2026).

  • Applied Scientist Intern @ Amazon, Jan. 2025 ~ May 2025

    • Mentors: Wenlin Yao, Lihong Li

    • I worked on computer use agents, developing a multi-turn online reinforcement learning (RL) method to enhance the interactive decision-making abilities (e.g., planning, browsing, search) of web agents. Publication: WebAgent-R1 (EMNLP 2025).

Academic Experience

  • Research Assistant @ University of Virginia, Aug. 2023 ~ Present

    • I worked with Prof. Yu Meng on large language models (LLMs), focusing on improving their efficiency, trustworthiness, and agentic capabilities.

  • Research Assistant @ University of Virginia, Aug. 2022 ~ Aug. 2023

    • I worked with Prof. Hongning Wang on federated bandits and online reinforcement learning.
